Scholarship information and application

Through grant and gift funding, we are able to offer a variety of scholarships to help cover part or all of the cost of course fees for some Apprenticeship participants. Scholarships may range from $500 to the full course fee amount of $5000. Scholarships are not available to cover the cost of meals, transportation, or other personal expenses.

To apply for one or more scholarships, please review the eligibility criteria below and complete the Apprenticeship Scholarship Application by: March 28, 2022 for the Summer Apprenticeship or May 9, 2022 for the Fall Apprenticeship. Note: all applicants must also complete and submit the Apprenticeship Program online application in order to be considered for scholarships.

General Apprenticeship Scholarship

All individuals who apply via the online scholarship form are considered for a General Apprenticeship scholarship. In addition to the General Apprenticeship scholarship, applicants may choose to apply to one or more additional scholarships with more specific eligibility criteria (please see below).

Simply Organic Scholarship

The Simply Organic endowment was established in 2009 through donations from Frontier Natural Products Co-op and Simply Organic to support participants in the Apprenticeship Program. The scholarship will cover the $5000 course fee for one apprentice in each session in 2022.

We have established an application process for the Simply Organic scholarship to help the staff select one recipient per year that best meets the stated intention of the fund founders:

  • The recipient should have demonstrated academic achievement, commitment, and ability to expand organic and sustainable agriculture, and have an established financial need.
  • As part of the agreement in receiving the award, the recipient is expected to provide Frontier Natural Products Co-op with biographical and related information on their experiences in the Apprenticeship Program and their future plans.
  • The recipient is also expected to provide at least one additional update on their work and impact of their training within 3 to 5 years after completing the program.
  • The recipient furthermore agrees, by their acceptance of the scholarship, to allow Frontier to publish and use their name and their information in various media in a manner that demonstrates the value of the education received by the recipient.

Food Justice and Equity Scholarship

The Food Justice & Equity scholarship is intended to support incoming apprentices presently committed to and engaged in creating food justice and equity in their communities and/or advocacy for responsible stewardship of the Earth. The scholarship will be used to financially support individuals from low-income communities that historically have been underrepresented, and who would otherwise be unable to attend the Apprenticeship.

In addition to completing the scholarship form, applicants for the Food Justice & Equity scholarship must obtain a recommendation letter that speaks to your engagement with food justice and equity in your community. Please ask the person writing your recommendation letter to upload it via the Food Justice & Equity recommendation letter form.

The scholarships will be assigned based on financial need and level of community involvement. Full or partial scholarships will be awarded to qualified candidates based on available funding.

To qualify for the Food Justice & Equity scholarship applicants must:

  • Demonstrate dedication to food justice and equity and/or advocacy for responsible stewardship of the Earth.
  • Clearly show significant financial need for a scholarship; without a scholarship applicant is unable to participate in the Apprenticeship.
