Directions
On the UC Santa Cruz campus, the UCSC Farm and Chadwick Garden are open to the public from 8am to 6pm daily. Visitors may also view the historic Cowell Ranch Hay Barn, which serves as office space for staff and event space for the campus and community.
Parking
Many UC Santa Cruz parking spaces require a parking permit. Permits can be purchased at the information kiosk just past the campus's main entrance at the corner of Bay and High Streets. There are also pay-per-hour and per-day parking spaces available in some lots. Visit the Transportation and Parking Services website to learn more about parking permits and fees.
To reach the UC Santa Cruz campus
From Southern and Central California:
Take Highway 101 north to Highway 156 west to Highway 1 north. Follow Highway 1 north to Santa Cruz.
From Northern California:
Take Interstate 5 south to Interstate 80 west to Interstate 680 south which becomes Interstate 280 north. Then take Highway 17 south to Santa Cruz, then Highway 1 north.
From San Francisco Airport:
Take Highway 101 south to Highway 85 south, to Highway 17 south to Santa Cruz, then Highway 1 north.
From San Jose Airport:
Take Interstate 880 which becomes Highway 17 south to Santa Cruz, then Highway 1 north.
From Monterey Airport:
Take Highway 1 north to Santa Cruz.
Once in Santa Cruz on Highway 1 north, continue as it becomes Mission Street through town. Turn right on Bay Street and follow it to the campus entrance.
Via bus: From San Jose, take the Highway 17 Express bus to the Metro station in downtown Santa Cruz. From Santa Cruz County, take the Santa Cruz Metro bus to the Metro station in downtown Santa Cruz. From the Santa Cruz Metro station, take any "UCSC" bus to get to the university. View Santa Cruz Metro routes here.

Via the Hay Barn Parking Lot
- Continue on Bay Street as it becomes Coolidge Drive
- Turn left at first light, onto Ranch View Road
- From Ranch View Road, turn right into the Hay Barn parking lot
- Metered and permit parking are available in the Hay Barn lot
- You can reach the UCSC Farm from the back of the Hay Barn parking lot
- Additional parking is available in lot 116 (see directions, below)

Via Parking Lot 116
- Continue up the hill on Coolidge and turn right at the Ranch View/Carriage House Road stoplight into the Carriage House/Campus Facilities parking lot (Lot 116). The Farm is a 5-minute walk across the street from the parking lot.
- Walk across Coolidge and follow the signs that say Center for Agroecology/Farm Pedestrians.
- Walk 1/5 mile up the gravel road that parallels the paved bike path to a short set of stairs and a wooden entrance gate. PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO WALK ON THE PAVED BIKE PATH! BIKES COME DOWN THE HILL RAPIDLY!

Via Bus
- Take any "UCSC" bus (routes 10, 15, 18, 19, 20, 22) to either the Coolidge Drive & Hagar Court bus stop or the Hagar Drive & Village Road bus stop. The Campus Shuttle also stops at both intersections.
- From Coolidge Drive & Hagar Court, head southwest on Coolidge Drive to Ranch View Road. Turn right at Ranch View Road and you will soon see the pedestrian path to the farm on your right. Just past the path you will find the Hay Barn, also on your right.
- From Hagar Drive & Village Road, walk down Village Road, pass through the parking lot and across the bicycle path (WATCH OUT FOR BIKES!). Just past the bike path you will see a small parking lot and an entrance gate to the farm.
To reach the Alan Chadwick Garden
- Once you enter campus, continue uphill on Coolidge Drive.
- Continue on Coolidge Drive for 1.7 miles.
- The Garden is located below the Merrill College parking lot.
- To reach the garden from the Merril College parking lot, walk down Merrill Road and turn left at the access road lined with compost piles. Proceed along the road to a gate that will lead into the garden.

Via bus
- Take "UCSC" bus routes 10, 18, 20, or 22 to the McLaughlin Drive (Crown & Merrill College) bus stop. The Campus Shuttle also stops here.
- Head east on McLaughlin Drive.
- Turn left on Merrill Road and you will see the garden access road to your right. Proceed along the road to a gate that will lead into the garden.
