Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) at the UCSC Farm & Garden

Our 2021 CSA is sold out. Thank you to our members for your support!

What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)?

By participating in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), you are making the choice to support local agriculture in a substantial way. By committing to the purchasing produce from the farm for the whole season, you provide a market we can count on and plan for. In exchange, you get produce that is picked fresh for you and quality, nutrition and flavor and that is unmatched! We make a point to choose interesting and flavorful varieties not widely available that will expand your tastes while also consistently providing the staples that you depend on. And by supporting the UCSC Farm in particular, not only are you supporting a local farm, but you are investing in our mission to advance agroecology and equitable food systems through education, research, extension and public service.

2021 CSA Details

Our 2021 CSA is officially sold out, but you can still enjoy Farm & Garden produce by visiting our Farmstand at the Cowell Ranch Hay Barn at UCSC every Tuesday and Friday from noon to 6pm through November.

The 2021 CSA Program will run for twenty-three weeks, from June 15, 2021 through November 19, 2021. As a CSA members, you can choose to pick up your produce on either Tuesdays or Fridays from 12-6pm at the Cowell Ranch Hay Barn.

What's New this Year?

This year we are excited to offer a FREE CHOICE SHARE. This means that you will come to our farm stand and pick out $25 worth of fruit and vegetables from a selection of produce. You will also be able to purchase additional produce from the stand at a special 10% discount for CSA members only. We hope this will allow you to get the most out of your relationship with the farm, by giving you some control over what the share provides.

For those who would rather pick up a pre-packed box, we will offer a FARMER’S CHOICE SHARE for an additional $2/week. With the Farmer’s Choice Share, we will choose the crops for you and pack your share for you to simply pick up each week.

What is the Cost?

The cost of the program is $550 for the season for $575 worth of produce (includes 1 Free Share as a thank you for your ongoing support) or $594 if you choose the prepacked Farmer’s Choice Share. Your payments can be made in one lump sum, two payments, or monthly payments. We also accept EBT and have limited income shares available as well. Please fill out the limited income form to apply for a discounted share.

What's in a Share?

We are lucky to live in an incredible climate for fruit and vegetable production! As the season unfolds and the farm warms up, we aim to provide as many high quality, seasonally appropriate crops as possible. A weekly newsletter keeps you informed about CASFS speakers, events and workshops and provides recipes that accompany the produce offerings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take $20 worth of produce one week and then $30 worth of produce the next?

Unfortunately, not. Your share value stays the same from week to week and does not transfer. There is always the option to purchase more from the stand at the 10% discount, but our base price for the week for CSA members is $25.

Can I take anything I want?

For the most part YES! We will place limits on certain crops (like strawberries and blueberries) to make sure that there is enough to go around. There will also be some crops that are not considered part of the share (like flower bouquets) that you can purchase additionally.

What if I go on vacation?

If you go on vacation we ask that you find a friend or family member to pick up your share, we don’t pause memberships, but are always happy to donate it for you.

What if I forget to pick up?

To ensure that we have enough produce for all of our customers, we ask that you choose a pick-up day and stick with it. That said, if you forget to pick up on your day, you are welcome to pick-up on our other pick-up day, on occasion. No need to let us know until you get to the stand.

Do accept EBT?

Yes! Choose that option on your form and we will contact you to set up payment.
