The University of California, Santa Cruz is accepting applications from UC Santa Cruz undergraduate and graduate students for a student fellowship opportunity with the University of California Global Food Initiative (UC GFI). The year-long fellowship will award students $4,000 to work with campus faculty and staff on research projects or internships related to the UC GFI.
Initiated in 2015 by UC president Janet Napolitano, the UC GFI is University of California’s effort to to use the university system’s expertise in research, education, and outreach to improve the food system on UC campuses, as well as throughout the state and beyond.
UC Santa Cruz GFI fellows will work with faculty and staff on core objective areas co-led by UCSC. These include the recently launched Healthy Campus Network, the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food System’s (CASFS) sustainable agriculture research and education, experiential learning, and the UCSC Farm and Garden CSA and Market Cart, which bring locally-grown produce to the campus community and beyond. Fellows can also support the UCSC Food Access & Basic Needs Team’s work toward addressing issues of food security and equity through the Slug Support Pantry and the new Cowell Coffee Shop.
Fellowship applicants must be matriculated undergraduate or graduate students at UC Santa Cruz for the entire 2019-2020 academic year.
